Wingate is a super reliable three-star where you can count on great beds, a fabulous flat-screen TV, a hot complimentary breakfast, and a location near the casino-action (minus the action’s sticker shock). The Wingate sits about a mile or so from the two giant casinos, under 4 miles from the Children’s Museum, and 4 miles from the sandy I-10 beach. The Wi-Fi is free and some rooms come with pull-out sofas. All rooms have a mini-fridge and mini-microwave, and some suites come with a kitchenette that gives you a sink and dining table (but no flatware, plate, cups and friends). Bathrooms are upscale with separate tubs and shower, and granite counters. Some suites have whirlpool tubs. You can even bring your fur-kid (for a $35 per night fee for up to three nights). You’ll find washers and dryers, a pretty outdoor pool with a palm tree and whirlpool, and a small fitness room.
