The most difficult thing about staying at the Alaska Adventure Cabins is deciding which of the eclectic collection of structures you will call home during your vacation in Homer. There are several cozy log homes, a huge timber lodge, a converted Pullman rail car and a beached shrimp boat. Stop in at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center for a quick lesson on the wildlife of the Kenai Peninsula. You can also follow a short nature trail to a wetlands and tidal area. A little further on is the Homer Spit, a 4-mile-long sliver of land that’s home to beaches, hiking trails, the ferry terminal and a small boat harbor. It’s a great place to look for a halibut fishing charter or whale watching cruise. After a day on a real boat, you can head back to your cabin boat for a good night’s sleep.
