Ash-Lawn Highland is the former home of President James Monroe and his wife, Elizabeth Kortright Monroe. Tours last approximately 35 minutes, and highlight one-of-a-kind furnishings and history — James Monroe helped to negotiate the Louisiana Purchase and fought in the American Revolution, after all.

The home is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., April through October, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., November through March. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $8 for kids (ages 6 to 11). Children under 6 are free to enter. Tip: Visit before 10 a.m. and pay just $10 for adult admission (applicable June 1 to Oct. 31).
