What began as a means to rescue wild animals became today’s 29-acre zoo, with more than 150 animals and 45 species native to Belize. Visitors will see animal like wildcats, including the jaguar, and Belize’s national animal, the tapir. Reptiles, including crocodiles, and brightly colored birds are also onsite. Snacks and refreshments are available at the Harpy Café, and the zoo’s pathways are accessible via stroller and wheelchair. The zoo is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
