The heart of Santa Domingo area, the Basilica Catedral Santa de la Encarnacion (referred to be locals as the Catedral Primada de America), is the oldest cathedral in the Americas, dating back to 1514. Once the site of Columbus’ tomb (now at Columbus Lighthouse), the cathedral features impressive architecture, stained glass windows and paintings. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
