It may have been a simple “trading post” once, but now this mandatory stop on the way through New Hampshire’s White Mountains has become a bona fide amusement park — or tourist trap, depending on your perspective. Among the sensory-overloading attractions on display are: a steam train ride, a climbing tower, a circus performance, boats with water cannons, and the trademark dancing bear show, with native black bears who have jumped, danced, and ridden bicycles to the amusement of generations of tourists.
