Glen Eyrie Castle

Glen Eyrie Castle

3820 N. 30th St., Colorado Springs, CO

Built in 1903 by General William Jackson Palmer, who founded Colorado Springs, Glen Eyrie Castle is seemingly hidden in the area’s foothills. It is located just minutes from famous Garden of the Gods.

While the property is primarily used for retreats and romantic getaways (it has a small hotel), guided tours of the castle are offered twice daily during the summer (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.), and once daily (1 p.m.) in the winter. The tours, which last about 90 minutes, include a short introduction and video presentation, followed by a visit to the castle. The tour may be boring for kids; it really just depends on your child and what their interests are.

Add to the experience with High Tea at the Castle, ideal for mother-daughter time, or make plans (well in advance) to attend the castle’s magical holiday events. Kids might also enjoy hiking the property’s trails, where it’s possible you’ll spot Bighorn sheep (you could very well spot them on a tour, too)!

Tickets are $9 per person and free for children under age 5. High Tea at the Castle and other events are an additional charge, though packaged rates are available.
