One of the more accessible and easy hikes in Death Valley, this is a must for families. The hike takes visitors through a wide array of rock formations in brilliant colors and interesting shapes, and there’s plenty for kids to climb on and over. Choose between a 2-mile round-trip in Golden Canyon, or a 4-mile loop that returns via Gower Gulch. Located close to Furnace Creek, the trailhead is easy to find on Badwater Road. This also makes this a surprisingly popular (and populated) spot, but you may find yourself eager to be among others after a few days in the sparsely populated valley. Free.
