While in Samana, inquire about boat trips across the bay to Los Haitises National Park. Large mangrove stands, a patch of rainforest and a network of caves await the lucky few who make their way to Los Haitises’ shores. The sounds of pelicans, parakeets and herons echo across the dense forest, and you can venture inside one of the caves to find bats and ancient Taino petroglyphs.
