Known for its record-breaking snowfalls, the Mt. Baker Ski Area at Heather Meadows has family-friendly appeal both in the winter and summer. In early fall, head here for kid-friendly hiking, fall colors and stunning views of Mount Shuksan and Mt. Baker. Try the Chain Lakes Trail for beginner hikers or the longer, but gentle, Lake Ann Trail. In winter, join area skiers and snowboarders on the slopes, sometimes as early as Thanksgiving. Lodging is available in Glacier or Bellingham. Stop in at the Glacier Ranger Station on your way for additional hiking tips and a Northwest Forest Pass for trailhead parking.
