North Lighthouse

End of Corn Neck Road, Block Island, RI

While not as picturesque as the Southeast Light on the opposite end of the island, this lighthouse is worth visiting for its dramatic location alone — standing guard over a rocky beach at the far northern point of Block Island. The blocky granite building was built in 1867, and is accessible via a half-mile walk along the shoreline. The first floor contains a small museum showcasing both tragic shipwrecks and heroic rescues that have taken place here over the years.
