To get a true sense of San Diego’s beginning, visit Old Town San Diego, which features historic sites, bazaar shopping and some of the best Mexican food you’ll find north of the border. Tours take place daily, including evening ghost tours that visit the Whaley House, rumored to be the most haunted house in the country. Within Old Town, there are a number of museums, including the Old Adobe Chapel, the Serra Museum and the Mormon Battalion Historic Site. Old Town is home to more than 25 restaurants, all within a mile radius, and many featuring Mexican and Southern California cuisine. The area is a lively, pedestrian area both day and night, and a must-visit when in San Diego.
