Old Town (Stare Mesto)

Attraction

The famed Old Town district of Prague is lined with cobblestoned streets for families to stroll through winding streets filled with souvenir shops, art galleries and restaurants. The area dates back to medieval times, with a town square in Old Town Hall dating back to the 10th century. In the middle of the square is a monument to Jan Hus, who was burnt as a heretic in the 1400s. Old Town City Hall features Prague’s famed Astronomical Clock, which features 12 apostles moving at the start of every hour.

Old Town consists of more than the square. Its attractions include the Powder Gate with a tower that dates back to 1475, a number of historic churches, Clementinum and the National Library, Charles Street and Kinsky Palace, which is part of the National Gallery.
