Old Trail Town

1831 Demaris Dr, Cody, 82414-8736, WY

Did you know Old Trail Town is the real Cody, Wyoming? This recreated frontier town is actually located on the original site of Cody. William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, who founded the town, decided to move the location a few miles down the road to be closer to the local train station and Shoshone River.

Now, on the original site of Buffalo Bill Cody’s namesake town, is historic buildings from Cody, other parts of Wyoming, and Montana, disassembled and then reassembled on the current site. Expect to see an 1885 post office, 1889 blacksmith shop, and even the infamous Hole in the Wall Cabin, where Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and other outlaws used to hide.

There’s also a small graveyard where Jeremiah “Liver Eatin” Johnston is buried. (Robert Redford portrayed him in the 1972 film, Jeremiah Johnston.)

Hours
Old Trail Town is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the summer, typically mid-May through the end of September.
