Go for the quiet solicitude offered inside a good book, stay for the baseball artifacts and the incredible artwork adorning the walls and ceilings of this landmark building that’s been home to the library since 1921.

Baseball aficionados will want to call (313) 481-1401 ahead of time to make an appointment to see “The Lulu and Ernie Harwell Room” exhibit area. It houses a portion of the Ernie Harwell Sports Collection (which began when the hall of fame Tigers broadcaster began donating items such as scorecards, audio tapes, baseball cards, photographs and more to the library) in addition to seats from old Tiger Stadium and a mock broadcast booth.

Street parking is available on Cass Ave. and on Saturdays, the staff lot (off of Putnam, between Cass and Woodward) is available for free.
