Robert Treman State Park is, without any doubt, one of the very best family-friendly retreats the Finger Lakes region has to offer. Located roughly four hours from New York City in Ithaca, N.Y., this park is absolutely stunning.
Families love the nine miles of hiking trails, winding through some of New York’s most scenic natural beauty. Follow the gorge trail up, down and through 12 awesome waterfalls, including the park’s largest, the 115-foot Lucifer Falls. Atop Lucifer Falls, families will observe one of the park’s most famous and captivating scenes — a 1.5-mile view straight down into the gorge, as the trails wind and twist, descending into the lower falls.
After the family is done with an exhausting hike, check out the park’s Enfield Glen, which is highly regarded as one of the Northeast’s best and most beautiful swimming holes. The stream-fed pool is excellent, and allows swimmers access to cliffs, waterfalls and crystal clear water — all under the supervision of trained lifeguards.
There’s plenty of camping in the area, with sites for tents, RV’s and even rentable cabins. Pets are allowed with restriction, and fishing and bow hunting are allowed in certain areas of the park, depending on the season.
