Salem, MA

Attraction

Salem, Mass., is known for its history of witch trials, making it a great destination for families who celebrate Halloween. But the seaside town is more than that — it is also known for its maritime history and literary roots. The House of Seven Gables is a historic site and inspired author Nathaniel Hawthorne to write his famous novel, and the New England Pirate Museum gives an in-depth history of the dockside village that was once also home to sailors and sea-robbers. Salem is a destination that can be seen year-round, but remember that New England often has cold and snowy winters. It is located just 16 miles north of Boston and if flying into Boston’s Logan International Airport, a taxi to the town will run about $50 one-way. If driving, take I-95 from the north or south and then look for Route 128. Visit Salem for a magical experience.
