Washington Irving did not reside in Sleepy Hollow; instead he lived across the street in Tarrytown. His historic home is now a site to visit and is especially popular for fans of the
“Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The restored home features Irving’s furnishings and writing materials. In the fall, Sunnyside offers special “The Legend Behind the Legend” events with discussions about the author and his inspiration, shadow puppet shows and spooky walks in the woods.
Sunnyside is open seasonally, May 1 through mid-November, providing timed tours Wednesdays through Sundays, as well as major holidays. Weekday tours run every hour while weekend tours run every half hour.
