Of all the moving parts you have to assemble when flying with a little one, airplane baby clothes probably aren’t the first items that spring to mind. But the more comfortable your baby is in transit, the better chances everyone has of enjoying the journey.
From the cutest baby boy clothes for flying to adorable in-flight attire for your baby girl, plus airplane baby blankets and other useful accessories to help induce sleep on a plane, these are the best airplane baby clothes for getting cozy and comfortable at 30,000 feet.
1. Hudson Baby Blanket
You know how cold it can be on airplanes. The last thing you want to deal with is a shivering baby, too. That’s why a good baby blanket is vital for your flight. The Hudson Baby Blanket is decorated with cute biplane designs for a travel theme that’s on point. But what we really love about this perfect airplane baby blanket is how lightweight and easy to roll up it is, while providing plenty of cozy warmth at the same time. The material is all polyester and has some flex to it, so you can easily use it to swaddle a newborn in-flight.
They had us at zen! What parent doesn’t want to invoke a feeling of in-flight serenity? Part airplane baby blanket/part sleep sack, the Nested Bean Zen Sack works to keep your baby both warm and securely coddled at the same time. The design is unisex and the little chick on the front has an insert that’s slightly weighted to mimic the feeling of a comforting palm on the baby’s chest. Adjustable straps on the shoulders let the sack grow with your baby and the zipper around the bottom allows easy access for diaper changes (or just tickling those cute little toes).
Warm feet are happy feet. And while baby socks have a tendency to slip off and get lost, the adjustable Velcro strap above baby’s ankle on these super cozy Luvable Friends Fleece Booties ensures they’ll stay on, both on the ground and in flight. The booties are machine washable and dry in a flash since they’re made from 100-percent polyester. They come in a range of colors and are inexpensive, too, so you can easily invest in both a travel version and one for home.
For baby boy clothes to keep your little guy cozy on an airplane, consider these classic Carter’s Fleece Zip Hoodies. The feeling of being ensconced in the warmth of a hoodie might be the extra piece of the puzzle required to get your baby to sleep on a plane. The super soft fleece is made from 100-percent polyester that dries quickly in case there’s an in-flight spill or two. Of course, the blue and gray color combinations in the two pack work well for little girls, too.
When you want to stand out from the hospital-issued pink and blue newborn cap, but still want something lightweight for the airplane that’s sure to stay put, the L’ovedbaby Organic Infant Cap is the hat for your baby. It has a similar form-fitting look as the hospital hats and promises to keep baby warm with plenty of breathability, too. It’s the perfect infant hat to provide that extra warmth on an airplane without being too heavy. Made from 100-percent cotton, it comes in adorable striped patterns and colors, including some great unisex options.
If only we all could fly in our pajamas! Cladding your little one in Simple Joy’s by Carter’s Fleece Footed Pajamas is a good way to cover as much of that super soft baby skin as possible in a single garment while leaving their hands free to play and nurse. The ankle-to-chin zipper allows easy on and off access for those dreaded lavatory diaper changes. And these PJs have a nice loose fit to ensure maximum comfort for a lounging lap baby.
Conveniently sized for babies six months and up (when many babies first try solid foods), the comfortable Bumkins Sleeved Bib wears like a T-shirt and adjusts with a back-tie closure that’s hard for them to rip off. It’s the perfect accessory to have along when you plan to feed your baby in-flight but don’t want to deal with a clothing change as a byproduct. The bib is made from a stain- and odor-resistant fabric that’s easy to wipe off and dries quickly after a hand or machine wash.
Are you sensing a theme here? Airplane baby clothes are all about keeping baby bundled and warm enough (but not too hot) on a plane to make the journey easier on everyone. The Halo Sleepsackis a go-to baby accessory on the ground that you’ll want to have inflight, too. The swaddle wings can be adjusted three different ways so you can choose to have the baby’s arms tucked in, up by their face or leave them out and just swaddle their torso instead. The sleep sack packs down to nearly nothing and can be used in favor of a baby blanket (put it on over your baby’s airplane clothing) to help save on space in your carry-on bag.
You won’t be able to use this Luxury Ring Sling Baby Carriermade from bamboo and linen on take off and landing for safety reasons, but it might be just the trick later on during your flight to keep your baby warm and cozy next to you—either to sleep, breastfeed or just gaze up at you admiringly as those sweet newborns tend to do.
