Library Hotel

Bookish kids who aren't easily impressed by cookie-cutter hotels will get a kick out of the stylish themed Library Hotel, just a block away from the New York Public Library and several subway lines. Each of the 10 floors follows one of the 10 categories of the Dewey Decimal system, and all 60 guestrooms are stocked with books within that category. There aren't any rooms with double beds, so families can choose adjacent rooms that share an antechamber and teens can have their own space. Guests get free continental breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Cool public spaces to hang out include the Writers Den, Poetry Garden, and the 24-hour Reading Room with drinks, cookies and fruit.

If you want to avoid the city's touristy neighborhoods, give this luxury boutique hotel in SoHo a try. It's also a great choice if you"re visiting NYU, and it's less than two blocks from the subway. There's great shopping all around, including Bloomingdales, Jil Sander, the MOMA Design Store, and the Paint Box nail design studio. The rooms at the Crosby Street Hotel, designed by Kit Kemp, feature warehouse-style floor-to-ceiling windows, flat-screen TVs, Tivoli radios, and Bose iPod docks. There's free Wi-Fi, and free laptops for guests to borrow. On property is a 99-seat movie theater, with weekly screenings, ranging from classics to new releases.

Refinery Hotel

Fashion-savvy teens will love this hip property located in a renovated historic industrial building in the fashion district. The black and white rooms at the Refinery Hotel are spacious, and provide that indispensable free Wi-Fi, as well as flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. There are several cool public spaces where you can chill, including the rooftop gardens, an outdoor terrace, and an indoor-outdoor patio with a retractable glass roof. The midtown location puts you near Bryant Park, the Empire State Building, Herald Square and Macy's. Multilingual concierges can help you plan a day beyond the neighborhood's borders.

Hilton Times Square

Space is at a premium in midtown, which makes the big guestrooms at the Hilton Times Square a welcome find for families with big kids. Standard and deluxe rooms range from 330 to 360 square feet; palatial by New York City standards. One-bedroom suites start at 625 square feet. Wi-Fi is free for Hilton Honors members who book directly. Kids love the views of Times Square activity, and if that gets old, they can turn their attention to the 46-inch, flat-screen televisions in each room, or head across the street to the movie theater. Check for family packages offered during your stay that include tickets to nearby attractions.
6/10

Omni Berkshire Place

The midtown eastside location of this Omni property can't be beat; it's within short walking distance to Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, and Fifth Avenue shopping. There's a concierge onsite at the Omni Berkshire Place to direct you to cool spots nearby, like Dylan's Candy Bar and Top of the Rock. Modern suites have the feel of a townhome, with room enough for everyone. Younger siblings qualify for the Omni Sensational Kids program and a complimentary activity backpack at check-in. Hopefully, they'll share the milk and cookies delivered to the room during turndown service. Free membership in the Omni Select Guest program gets you free in-room Wi-Fi.
7/10

Hilton Garden Inn Times Square

The location of this Hilton Garden Inn on 8th Avenue means it's close to the action of Times Square, but still relatively quiet. You're just a block away from Broadway theaters, and attractions like M&M World, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and Midtown Comics. The large rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square feature two queen beds, not doubles, which give you much-appreciated additional sleeping space. Even though there's a full-service, kid-friendly restaurant onsite, the microwave and mini-fridge in your room lets you inexpensively feed hungry teens. During down time, you can rent Nintendo Game Cube video games to play in your room.
8/10

The London NYC

The London NYC is a stylish choice when the standard generic hotel just won't do. The designer rooms, with complimentary Wi-Fi, are more than 500 square feet in size. Larger suites offer up to as much as 2,500 square feet, and can include full kitchens or atriums. There's 24-hour room service for midnight cravings, and two Gordon Ramsay restaurants that young foodies will appreciate. Late check-outs, when available, mean you can let your teen sleep in until 2 p.m. The property is just two blocks from the subway station, and close to Central Park and Carnegie Hall.
9/10

New York Marriott Marquis

If you want to be right in the middle of Times Square -- because all that neon never gets old -- there's plenty of space available at the 49-story New York Marriott Marquis. There are pull-out couches in all rooms, as well as flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. A smart choice is the 860-square-foot Family Connector room with a king room next to a double with a sofa bed. To access the free Wi-Fi that's only available in public spaces, take the space-age elevator up to The View revolving restaurant, try the new Broadway Lounge outdoor patio, or stop by the Starbucks onsite. Not only are you near Broadway, but the 1,611-seat Marquis Theatre is part of the property.
10/10

Holiday Inn Manhattan - Financial District

This property is not only brand new from the ground up, with funky modern Asian decor, but it's also a world record holder. What teen wouldn't like to brag that they stayed in the world's tallest Holiday Inn hotel? The Holiday Inn Manhattan - Financial District is more than 453 feet tall, with 50 floors, so the views of the Freedom Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Hudson River, and New Jersey beyond are astounding. While the rooms are compact -- you'll want to reserve two that connect -- the downtown location puts you close to Battery Park, and one block from the subway line.
