The Captain’s Quarters Resort Sand Dunes Resort & Spa is a beautiful oceanfront resort sitting on the Grand Strand with guestrooms in several configurations from studios to two-bedroom suites. Several room styles span the 15-floor resort featuring full kitchens. Rooms have a flat-screen, free Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, a microwave and a coffeemaker. Most rooms have a balcony with ocean views. Cribs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at check-in.

The property has several indoor and outdoor pools both with numerous hot tubs and two lazy rivers. Other family-fun includes a 2,000 square-foot center that is home to a 20-lane bowling alley, an arcade, and a bar for the adults. The property also has a fitness center and coin-laundry. The five onsite restaurants are casual and work well for the picky among us. (Some open seasonally.) Many resorts include a “resort fee” on the final bill. Ask about the resort fee in advance to avoid sticker shock.
