Opened in 1801, the historic Grafton Inn has hosted everyone from Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau to Woodrow Wilson and Ulysses S. Grant. In fact, you can see a full list of the hotel’s famous guests in the lobby, where a cozy fireplace and sitting area invite families to relax. The intimate property offers 45 guestrooms that include units with two double beds for families. Four vacation rentals are also available for those wanting full kitchens and more space. All rooms are equipped with free Wi-Fi, though it may be spotty – Grafton is a small town that’s off the beaten path (and that’s half the charm).

Unplugged hotel perks include a game room with a pool table and Ping-Pong; tennis courts; and outdoor activities – including pond swimming — at Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center. Other hotel perks include morning coffee service, afternoon cookies and two onsite dining options: the Old Tavern Restaurant and the Phelps Barn Pub.
