My stay at The Gregory was very bad. Upon getting in to the room, which was very late at night due to a delayed flight, I immediately messaged my company's travel service to cancel the second night of my stay, and left at 6am the next day in order to relocate to another hotel. My room overall felt very grimy and made me uncomfortable to say the least. I am glad to say that the bedding itself was clean and I felt comfortable sleeping on the linens, though the mattress was very uncomfortable. There was chipping and water damaged areas on the clearly very old popcorn ceiling. The furniture was all scuffed and the lower section of the radiator cover was propped up on some old wood. The radiator began to clank so loudly in the middle of the night that I woke up at 3am (and then every 20-45 minutes) to what sounded like someone was being attacked with a metal pipe 6 inches from my head. The plastic baseboards were literally peeling off the walls. The carpet felt generally damp and matted. The bathroom was insanely small, with the toilet being installed so close to the wall that if you were to sit on the seat, your bare skin touches the wall. The inside of the windows were smudged and dirty. There was old plumbing fixture attachment points and valves sticking out of the bathroom wall next to the sink. The "DND" signage available for the room was an old embroidered mens neck tie, which maybe was seen as cheeky and modern 10 years ago but just felt gross in 2019. I routinely use hotel Do Not Disturb signs when I travel, as I don't need turn down every day as a solo traveler and I like to not waste the housekeepers time. The fact that the hotel is providing an unsightly necktie for me to place outside my door just comes off as incredibly tacky at best, and in the wake of #MeToo extremely very tone deaf. Though the front desk staff who checked me in was kind and gracious, there's nothing he could've done to make up for the room. It was absolutely awful.
The front of house staff in the lobby were mostly kind, but were not presentable in their dress. The gentleman's suit who checked me in was visibly dirty, the young woman who I believe was the bell staff was also a bit unkempt in both her dress and her hair. She was slouched over in a chair when I came in with my luggage and proceeded to interrupt the front desk agent as he was checking me in to shout that she was cold. It was very cold in the lobby, but that just seemed like an inopportune time to bring it up.
