Let‘s be clear. This is not the Ritz but if you are looking for a pleasant Balinese style stay in an unbeatable location (just five minutes’ walk from the beach and boardwalk/restaurants, on the border of Legian/Seminyak and with plenty of restaurants and shops, including Bintang Supermarket, nearby) and with accommodating and friendly staff (including Alit on the front desk) then ypu should consider this accommodation. You should pay maximum 150,000 rupiah to get there from the airport by taxi (less if you use Grab). Its‘ glory days were back in the 90’s but what is left is an establishment which is actually two hotels (Sari Bunga and Bali Subak) with 22 and 29 rooms respectively and a very welcoming atmosphere. You have use of two pool areas, including the cave pool area (see photos) and one open-air restaurant.
We stayed five nights in Bali Subak and enjoyed the big balcony which was equipped with two chairs, a table and a clothes stand for hanging washing/towels, in addition to outdoor lighting. The room was large and the bed for the third person (extra nominal charge) was a proper mattress on the floor and was just as comfortable as the main bed, which was 190cm wide. A request for one of the pillows to be changed from hard to soft was swiftly dealt with, together with the request for a blanket (in addition to the sheets) for the extra bed. The airconditioning worked efficiently and there were lots of channels on the old-fashioned but functional tv. The small fridge was appreciated and we received three small bottles of complimentary water daily. Plenty of space in the cupboard and drawers but no coathangers. Bedlinen is changed daily.
The bathroom was functional albeit somewhat old but fully tiled. The shower area itself was blocked by half a wall so felt quite roomy and the pressure was great and the water was as hot as we desired. Only soap and shower caps are provided so bring your shampoo/conditioner with you (otherwise heard to Bintang Supermarket). The fan automatically turns on with the light. We opted not to change our towels daily. The room, and even the cave pool area, was incredibly quiet and a welcome reprieve from all the honking and tooting along Jl.Arjuna (Double Six Street). We had no issues with mosquitoes, despite it being the wet season.
They have a number of wifi addresses. Wifi worked really well by the pools and also on the balcony. It worked well for me inside the room, but not necessarily for all three of us simultaneously.
Breakfast was included in the rate and was partaken in the restaurant that had at least two powerpoints ideal for recharging phones and was open air with a roof, thereby providing a real Balinese ambience. Again, for the price paid, the breakfast was far more than adequate. White and wholemeal bread, jam portions, fresh pineapple, papaya, watermelon, tea, coffee, juice, and alternating of a noodle dish and a fried rice dish and also fried banana or pancakes filled with syrup. On top of that, eggs made to order at their one-pan egg station!
Note the rooms are non-smoking (this may show incorrectly on some travel agent websites). If you wish to smoke, you must do it outside. I would stay here again and recommend to anyone looking for great value for money.
