Burg Muehle means mill of the castle, and that’s exactly what this unique hotel used to be. Standing alongside the ruins of the town castle-fortress, this hotel still has the working water wheel from the grain mill on display in the restaurant. You can also choose to eat on the outdoor patio overlooking the gardens. A buffet breakfast including a variety of cold cuts, cheeses, fresh baked breads, fruit, cereal and eggs, is complimentary.

The 40-room hotel is family-friendly, with a playground and a large field for kids to run around. The modestly decorated rooms can fit three people, plus they have free cribs, so you could fit a fourth smaller child in the room. Some of the rooms open up to balconies.

Hotel Burg Muhle is in the storybook-like town of Gelnhausen, with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, some dating back to the 15th century. Cross the charming little bridge next to the hotel, and you’ll find yourself on a street with a cute guesthouse/restaurant and a delightful alfresco wine bar.
