21st Century Chic with a Cosy Atmosphere

by Alexandra M

The Study is my go-to property in New Haven. Sadly for me, just about everyone feels similarly at this spiffy, well-located hotel and it is often 1. difficult to score a room, 2. The prices can seem high - but with little competition it’s to be expected. The commodious lobby with leather chairs, living room-style seating and a small food kiosk tucked into the corner is so well designed: minimalist clean decor with comfy touches - all put together beautifully with a well-trained eye. The staff at the Front Desk are incredibly friendly. Some of them really go above and beyond, every single stay. It’s a welcome change to walk into a hotel where you’ve stayed countless (dozens) of times and the staff greet you by name and remember every little detail. Staffed mostly by young people, and with a young Assistant Manager, I am impressed with the high level of professionalism. Too often hotels employ people who are young and attractive but who know nothing about the hotel industry - at all. Not the case at The Study. My son is a student at Yale and Im often in New Haven on other business as well. Walking into the lobby, seeing the smiles from the Front Desk staff, knowing they will do their best to make me happy, is just a breath of fresh air in this day when ineptitude tends to pervade so many service experiences in many fields. The GM, Mr. Moir deserves high marks for employing a terrific team.
The rooms are large although the bathrooms and closets (oddly) are a bit small. Nevertheless the bathroom has a large shower stall, Duravit sink and it’s all so clean, with a great pared-down design. The bedrooms have been done very well - spacious and devoid of clutter. Very clean: the ambience and the housekeeping is excellent too. Cleverly, they’ve outfitted the entire width of the room with a long, deep shelf that has a desk integrated into it. There’s plenty of room to spread out. They have a few expensive classic modern design pieces (giving the over all look as straight from a DWR catalog). In the corner is a commodious leather arm chair and ottoman. The linens are nice: the duvet cover is made out of natural, un bleached linen. Cleverly, by using a few good design pieces, the designers were able to cut back on fussy headboards and expensive furniture. I have two small quibbles: the pillows really could do with an upgrade; there is no small fridge/mini bar in the room although there is plenty of space for one in the existing cabinetry.
The huge wall-to-wall glass windows make the rooms incredibly bright. I appreciate the solar blinds which cut the glare while not darkening the room too much or blocking out the view. There is also a black out shade which is great for sleeping in.
They do offer room service but I prefer to pop down to the bar in the restaurant for a delicious burger and a glass of wine.
I really enjoy this cute, friendly and incredibly comfy hotel. And, it would seem, so does everyone else.

The Study at Yale - Exceptional

If I could give a 10 on a scale of 1-5, I would do so, based on the weekend I just spent at The Study at Yale. The amazing staff, service, room, and overall ambiance made my anniversary weekend one I will never, ever forget. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
