It Just Depends

by Bman32

My cousin got married at the Farmer's Market in Ithaca and this was the best location we could find for a reasonable price - about a mile away. The lobby looked pretty nice. A few stains on the nice furniture, but otherwise looked pretty good. We reserved a room and my parents had reserved a room. Ours looked good with the exception of the bathroom, which needed some serious attention to the cleaning of the baseboards and the dark growth that was in some of the seams in the shower. I was able to scrub up the bathroom myself to make it acceptable, but I was disappointed to have to do that. My parents room had an odor to it that made it very unpleasant, but otherwise looked in good order. I had recommended the place to others in the family due to the location. Not sure what their rooms were like.

Meh

The Super 8 is a convenient location and a good value. A 24-hour Wegman's (with a cafe) is across the street, as well as a CVS. It's a 15-minute walk to the Commons.

The room was a normal size and included a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker and a 32" flat screen TV. But there was no safe. The bed was comfortable although we thought the pillows were too hard. The AC unit was modern and easy to operate. The bathroom was standard size and clean. It had a hair dryer and ironing board + iron. Hot water temperature and pressure were good. Soap was included but no shampoo. There is a computer and printer in the lobby.

The free breakfast includes powder eggs, sausage patty, sometimes hard boiled eggs, waffle maker, yogurt, cereal, bagels, toast and cream cheese.

There are 3 entrances which is convenient: the front lobby, from the parking lot in the back and from the side off the S Meadow Street bridge. There is no elevator. Parking is free.

The staff was excellent. They were nice and accommodated a late checkout request.

But not everything was good. (1) Walking into the room, it smelled of powerful cleaning products. The smell persisted throughout our stay. (2) The noise level was high even though no guests were partying. Bring earplugs. (3) The chair in the room looks like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while. (4) The bathroom sink was lightly clogged causing the water to build up. (5) The printer in the front lobby ran out of ink and the front desk didn't have a replacement. They printed the materials for me but this inconvenient. (6) There was a puddle of sludge on the coffee maker cup holder tray. Not seeing this against the tray's dark color, I picked up the cups and the sludge went on my clothes. I didn't bring any of this up to management as we didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway and I didn't want to deal with it.

Would I stay again? Ithaca hotels are very expensive for upstate NY due to proximity to Cornell. I would check out other hotels first and see if the price difference is worth it.
