Few Sacred Valley hotels make it this easy to travel onward to Machu Picchu. Tambo del Inka has a private train station right onsite, where you can board for Aguas Calientes. But you’ll be hard pressed to leave once you check into this beautiful hotel along the Urubamba River, where the spacious rooms have Andes views. The concierge is world-class and can help arrange all your ongoing travel to Machu Picchu or elsewhere in Peru. There’s an excellent restaurant, Hawa, onsite. And kids love the regular pizza nights, where they can make their own pies to bake in the open hearth on an outdoor patio. For a memorable stay in the Sacred Valley, it doesn’t get any better.

Phenomenal stay!! Highlight of our trip to Peru!

My husband and I traveled to Peru for about 10 days end of June to first week of July 2019. Tambo was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip!! Stay here!! The staff is so attentive and so wonderful - we felt so relaxed the entire time we were here.

We stayed 4 nights at Tambo. Here is an overview of what we did:

Day 1 - arrive, settle in, walk property, have dinner at Casa Colonial (great - see my reviews for the individual restaurants)
Day 2 - AM cooking class at Casa Colonial (arranged by Tambo and was awesome!! - skip breakfast though that morning...sooo much food), then a taxi to Maras salt mines and Moray (not through travel agency onsite at Tambo - Tambo just arranged for a cab for us and which was more economical and we could go at our own pace). Dinner at El Huacatay.
Day 3 - Machu Picchu - we took train from Tambo (Urumbamba station) - SO convenient and such a wonderful experience!! We bought bus ticket at aguas calientes when we got there to take bus from train - it was easy, just follow the crowds when you get off the train. Dinner at Hawa (there at Tambo)
Day 4 - Explored Ollantaymbo, climbed ruins (2nd favorite thing we did after Machu Picchu!!) - also took a cab arranged for by Tambo concierge. Afternoon - spa treatments - I received Kallpa massage and my husband had a deep tissue and we did them as a couple's massage. Beautiful spa and experience not to be missed!! That evening we did the cocktail making class and then dinner at Tres Keros.

Every morning we had the wonderful breakfast - WOW! so delicious and fresh. Staff was so polite, kind, and went over the top for us at every opportunity.

All of the staff we encountered were wonderful - a special shout out to Andrea Sullca at concierge - she was SO great and booked everything for us and patiently answered all of our questions. She was so professional and helpful. Also David at the spa was so kind and genuine - he really went over and beyond as well to make sure we were having a wonderful time in the spa and pleasant stay. Also, our masseuses at the spa, Marlene and Milagros, were so thorough and made sure the massages were specific to our liking. Also Willie and Irma were so courteous and helpful.

I highly recommend staying here and exploring Ollantaytambo and Urumbamba and the sacred valley generally - my husband and I LOVED it even more than Cusco. We felt very safe the entire time we were there. We walked from Tambo to Tres Keros, Casa Colonial, and El Huacatay in the dark every night to dinner and felt totally fine. You can also take a tuk tuk (spelling?) for a couple pesos if you prefer.

Only constructive feedback I have for Tambo is for Hawa restaurant. Our whole experience was over the top, but if I had to picksomething, it would be the dinner at Hawa needs improvement. Breakfast was phenomenal - but the dinner experience was somewhat lacking. I think there is some under staffing for the evenings- everyone was very nice that attended to us, but maybe spread too thin and maybe need more training. Food was comparable to dining at Tres Keros and Casa Colonial, so I would suggest those to guests instead of Hawa.

Last thing - we just want to give a special thank you to the staff and entire team at Tambo del Inka for making our stay and visit to Peru so special. It is evident you all really care and we so appreciate it. We will definitely be back!!
