At first glance, Vertical Horizons seems to cater to couples, but it welcomes kids and offers a quiet, unique “treehouse” stay in a woodsy setting. Be aware, however, prices are based on double occupancy, and kids cost the same as an extra person, so it’s not a budget experience. But the rate includes free Wi-Fi and “Phil’s Awesome Breakfast,” a full breakfast served family style with items like fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, French toast, crepes, and whipped cream. Three of the four available treehouses accommodate families (the Cottage and Shitake sleep four, and Excalifer sleeps up to six). They include lofts with ladders or spiral stairs, mini-fridges, teakettles, and half bathrooms. The Excalifer has a microwave and TV. There’s a main guest bath facility near the main house for showers, a short walk along a pathway. You’ll also find a disc golf course (bring your own discs) on the property, and Cave Junction’s caves are about 45 minutes away.
