This casual resort is surrounded by a wildlife refuge on one side and a bird sanctuary on the other, so it’s a great base from which to explore nature. You’ll feel right at home in the two-bedroom suites, which feature three double beds and space for a crib or rollaway. Every suite has a living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, electric range, toaster, cookware, dinnerware and cutlery. When you don’t feel like cooking, check out the Golden Bear Restaurant in the main lodge for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The resort is minutes from a large shopping center with grocery stores and restaurants. One of the nicer amenities of the Wedgewood Resort is their Around Town Express, a free shuttle to popular Fairbanks attractions.
The resort is located in the quiet north end of Fairbanks next to a 2,200-acre bird sanctuary. The Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge contains 3 miles of interpretive trails, easily accessed right from your hotel room. On the resort grounds itself is the nationally acclaimed Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum, home to 80 classic old cars. It’s a short drive to the Golden Heart Plaza and the beautiful riverfront parks of downtown Fairbanks. Kids will want to spend a day or two at Pioneer Park, where they can ride a train, see how mining equipment works, and explore Alaska’s history in a restored gold rush town and a replica Native village. Further down the Chena River is the Riverboat Discovery, a huge paddle wheeler that takes guests on a three-hour cruise into the Alaskan experience. There’s much to see and do in Fairbanks, and the Wedgewood Resort is the perfect location for your big family vacation in Alaska.

This was my starting point for my trip to Alaska, the check in and out was stress free, the rooms were more like suites with a kitchen, dining room, lounge room and bedroom, all of which was full heated. They have buses to take you to your accommodation if required or if you wish to go to the restaurant a vehicle will pick you up and drop you back. I didn’t get to see the lake or the vehicle museum but other people I spoke with said both were good.
Wow, this is truly a home away from home. Very clean, all of the rooms are large and a well appointed kitchen. Staff very friendly and helpful. Also, there is a fabulous car museum and gorgeous walking trails right on the facility. I would not hesitate to stay at Wedgewood Resort again!
