One of a handful of outlying cays that make for exciting island-hopping day trips, Elbow Cay is most easily accessible by a 20-minute ferry boat ride from Marsh Harbour. Its charming Hope Town, known as “the Nantucket of the Bahamas” for its New England architecture, looks like something out of a storybook and can be explored only by foot. Plan on a climb up the Hope Town lighthouse, lunch, a museum visit, and shopping in its galleries and boutiques.
It’s also easy to travel to Elbow Cay by rental boat, which gives you the opportunity to play in the shallows and sandbars of surreal Tahiti Beach at the southwest end of the cay. A couple of resorts provide accommodations if you decide to spend more time.
