Emerald Bay — featuring Fannette Island, the only island on the lake — is really one of the crown jewels of Lake Tahoe. The views to be had from this pocket of the region are simply breathtaking. There are a couple short easy trails from the parking lot, including a one-mile descending trail to the mansion house Vikingsholm, which is renowned for its magnificent Scandinavian architectural design.
