Mist Trail, which starts as a paved path and turns to steep stairs, is a three-mile roundtrip leading you up to Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls. It can be difficult at times, so if the kids are worn out by the time you reach the Vernal Falls bridge, you might want to call it a day instead of tackling the stairs.

If your kids are older and you’re determined to hike the whole thing, be aware that the steps on the falls can be quite slippery, so make sure the family is outfitted with good hiking shoes and don’t take unnecessary risks.
