The oldest burying ground in Salem, the Burying Point was erected in 1637. Referred to as the Charter Street Burial Ground, it is home to the grave of a pilgrim from the Mayflower and Chief Justice John Hawthorne, one of the Witchcraft Court judges and an ancestor of Nathaniel Hawthorne.
