Family Activities:

Providence, R.I.

Attraction

Providence, R.I., is a city filled with family fun. With outdoor attractions like the Roger Williams Park Zoo and its Riverwalk, plus its many museums, restaurants and shopping areas, Providence is a must-see when visiting Rhode Island. The city is just 45 minutes from Newport, R.I., by car and is on the Providence River. Enjoy a river cruise during the afternoon and then stick around for the town’s famous WaterFire event, where nearly 100 bonfires illuminate the surface of the three rivers that pass through the downtown area. The weather is best during the summer, as New England is known for cold winters, but fall and spring also offer vibrant foliage and flowers in bloom. The closest airport to Providence is T.F. Green Airport, but Boston’s Logan International Airport is just under one hour away. If traveling by car, take I-95 from the north or south, and Route 6 or 44 from the east or west. Whether visiting for a weekend or a week, Providence is a great place for your next family vacation.
