Spruce Tree House

Mesa Verde National Park, CO

The third largest dwelling in Mesa Verde is also the best preserved. A steep, half-mile walk climbs 100 feet to the site just outside of the Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum. Containing just a few rooms, the village was created between 1200 and 1280 A.D. To see this site, follow a paved trail; there are no ladders or steps, so if traveling with a stroller, this is the site to visit. During the spring, summer and fall, tours are free and self-guided; during the winter months, three free, guided tours are available each day.
