NOTE: When we arrived, we were immediately upgraded to the adults only Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganvulle connected to the resort. So this review is for that resort
We wen to the Dominican Republic to see Winter League Baseball games and we chose this resort based on its location between La Romana and San Pedro de Macoris. We booked through CheapCarribean.com and got a reservation for The Grand Bahia Principe La Romana. We were picked up at the airport and taken to the resort. As soon as we arrived, they told us they were upgrading our room to the Adult Only resort for no extra charge.
Eddie our “butler” was fantastic. He helped us with our bags, brought us champagne and rum and had a bath drawn for us when we arrived home from our tour, complete with bubbles and rose pedals.
Everything was great. The staff was attentive, the pools were nice, great swim up bars and a wonderful beach. We even took a mini sail boat out one afternoon. All included in our resort.
The rooms were nice and big and the maids cleaned every day. We had a nice balcony and the front staff helped us find taxis for the baseball games.
Only downside was the food which could be better, but I’d still give 3 out of 5 stars. There was enough to eat even if some of the dishes were a little disappointing. That being said, they offered us champagne when we entered the cafeteria, so no problem.
Overall, I think, for the price we paid and the quality of the service, and the location, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this place if you are going to see baseball or just want a nice relaxing week in the sun for a good price.
And by the way, don’t worry about news stories. Everything was just fine. I had heard to avoid the in room alcohol, but it looks like they have unopened airplane bottles now, so I believe everything is safe.
Many activities for the whole family. I highly recommend taking the bikes out over to the golf course along the water. It's beautiful. They are free for an hour each day. Same with kayaks, which we also did.
The a la carte restaurants have amazing dishes and the buffets have something for everyone. Bring pepto because the food may not agree with you.
The pool bar has only house liquor, but the lobby has many more options.
We had the ability to go to the adult resort next door, which we did since we were not traveling with kids. The pool at this resort is filled with kids.
