Sonora Resort

Some some of the best grizzly bear viewing ever. The Homlaco Nation does a great job. Our guides, Kalvin and Ian were the best! All of the staff at the resort were very welcoming and professional. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Absolute bliss

Just back from a perfect stay at Sonora; gorgeous setting, gorgeous hotel, and fabulous staff. Where do we start? The hotel's remote setting is so calming/relaxing, and the staff attentive without being intrusive. We had the most gorgeous room, directly overlooking the jetty below. The property is thoughtfully laid out - lots of quiet spaces, and seating scattered thought the grounds; our favourite was right on the water's edge where we watched inquisitive sea lions splashing around.

The food was superb, without exception, accompanied by gorgeous local wines. Try ice wine if you haven't before. And the beer wasn't bad too. The staff in the restaurant remembered our preferences after just one order - so impressive.

We were also lucky to have an incredible bear-watching experience; the bonus is the hotel keeps a number of lenses that guests can borrow. I did, and got some amazing shots of those lovely bears. Our salmon fishing trip was less successful, however, but we were at the end of the season and enjoyed watching the porpoises having fun in the sea instead.

We'd definitely go back. It's expensive, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for.
