This is one of those smaller city hotels that I prefer over the "I'm way too busy to slow down" hotels, or the ones that cost half the national debt per night. The Thistle Holborn is wonderfully friendly and helpful - I was bouncing through London trying to get home after an injury, and reception allowed me to block the room for three days, with no charge to leave earlier. This was an enormous help, as I had no idea when I could get a flight home.

Great location for the British Museum. The sixth floor has "funky" rooms with odd corners under the mansard, but is library quiet.

Breakfasts are a cut above the usual Dreaded British Hotel Breakfast; for dinner, go out the front door and turn left. Go three streets to Sicilian Avenue (south side of the street) and treat yourself to a very good Italian dinner at the Spaghetti House.

I generally stay in the Strand Palace when I need to be near Covent Garden, but the Thistle is on of the Good Places, and I have stayed here off and on for maybe 25 years when I wanted the location, and while the hotel has modernized a bit, it remains a place I will gladly return to.

A very comfortable hotel with a perfect location, within walking distance of all London site seeing must do's.
Rooms are very warm and comfortable, bar area is perfect at the end of a tiring day with excellent meals and snacks available.
